Frequently asked questions
Does WayCrumb work without internet?
Yes. Once you download the offline map for your destination, your entire trip works with zero signal, including all your pins, notes, itinerary, and walking directions. Anything you change offline syncs automatically when you reconnect.
How do I download an offline map?
Open your trip, tap the map, then tap "Download for offline". Pick the area (city, region, or custom radius) and the tiles cache locally. You can download multiple areas per trip — one per city on a multi-city itinerary.
How much storage does an offline map take?
Usually 30 to 120 MB per city, about the size of a few songs. A typical city area covers a 20 km radius, and you can delete downloaded maps any time from the trip's offline settings.
What still works with zero signal?
Viewing all pins with photos, addresses, notes, and hours. Viewing the itinerary and reordering it. Getting walking directions to any pin. Checking off places as you visit them. Adding new pins from the location log. Reading your travel history.
What needs a signal to work?
Pasting a new URL (needs to fetch the page), forwarding a new email (needs the server to parse it), inviting new collaborators, and syncing changes back to the cloud. Everything queued while offline sends automatically once you reconnect.
Do offline maps expire?
Downloads stay on your device until you delete them. WayCrumb prompts a refresh every 90 days so your tiles reflect road and POI updates, but the old copy still works until you refresh.
